KIMCO’S CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM EARNS TWO MAJOR DESIGNATIONS
Each year Kimco discloses information related to its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance through a range of vehicles, including our annual Corporate Responsibility Report and a variety of investor-driven questionnaires. A number of these disclosures are scored by third-party organizations and provide one benchmark for the company’s ESG performance. We’re proud of our progress in this area as measured by year-over-year improvement in scores from organizations such as CDP and the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
For the first time this year, we applied for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI assessment process involves more than 3,400 of the world’s largest companies each year and is considered a leading authority for investors tracking the financial performance of corporate sustainability leaders in their respective industries. Participation requires tracking and reporting dozens of indicators related to ESG performance through a proprietary data collection and scoring process, and inclusion in the family of indices is reserved for only those companies obtaining the highest scores relative to their peer group.
We were pleased to announce last week that Kimco has been named to the prestigious DJSI, one of a handful of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and the only retail landlord currently listed on this index.
The DJSI recognition comes on the heels of being awarded “Green Star” status by GRESB for the second consecutive year. The "Green Star" is GRESB's highest designation for real estate portfolio owners and is given to those demonstrating true sustainability leadership. Kimco has increased its aggregate score in each successive GRESB reporting cycle, a clear indication that our initiatives are becoming more efficient each and every year.
Over the past several years, we’ve learned first-hand that Corporate Responsibility remains an important priority for our stakeholders, including investors, tenants, and employees. We are honored to be recognized by both the DJSI and GRESB for our efforts, but more so than the recognition, we value these benchmarks as important guideposts for the program – helping our team to objectively assess current efforts and plot a path for further improvement.
We want to extend a big "Thank you!" to all of the Kimco employees, vendors, and partners who have played a part in making our program a success to date. Your efforts are yielding results, and helping to advance these important issues within our industry.
