KIMCO'S MID-ATLANTIC REGION COMES TOGETHER FOR A COMMON CAUSE
Here in the Mid-Atlantic Region, we’re passionate about giving back to the communities where we operate. Our recent fundraiser and volunteer event benefited the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Baltimore, Maryland that provides hospital and respite housing services to critically ill children and their families. We raised $1,295 for the foundation, and thanks to the company’s generosity, Kimco provided a corporate match which doubled the amount raised by our team for a total donation of $2,590.
Kimco’s corporate donation initiative is a new addition to the Community Connection program, which already allowed all associates to take two fully paid work days each year to volunteer in our communities. The new initiative entitles all employees to a corporate match of up to $500 per year for any charitable giving they do to qualified 501(c)(3) charities. To facilitate, Kimco has partnered with YourCause, a software solution that connects corporations, employees, and nonprofits. The YourCause platform not only manages the donation portion of the program, but allows Kimco to easily track individual and team volunteer activities and can also help employees identify charitable programs based on their interests and location.

We used YourCause to help organize our Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation fundraiser and volunteer event. At the recommendation of Scotty Sellman, senior director of real estate based in our Timonium, Maryland office, we visited the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins to find out how we could get involved. The foundation’s hospital housing program is the premier provider of overnight accommodations for families of children receiving treatment at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore. During our visit we learned more about participating in the home’s Family Supper Program and took pictures to share with our colleagues. Once we returned, we simply set up a page on the YourCause platform with details on the program, a call-out for volunteers, and a list of what was needed leading up to the family supper. Having all the information in one place made it easy to keep the 70 associates in our region informed on how they could help.
Volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic Region preparing a meal for families staying at the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins
Seven regional associates went to the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins on May 2, prepared a meal for residents, and were able to eat and spend time with the families. Although we could only bring a few volunteers with us to the actual event, there were plenty of other opportunities for employees to get involved. 29 employees provided a monetary donation and six brought in baked goods that we could take with us to the supper. Some associates even donated up to $100 on their own, and we were very appreciative of their generosity. It’s truly rewarding that we were not only able to visit with the residents and provide them a home-cooked meal, but give a check to the foundation for its programming in support of critically ill children and their families.
Kimco presented a check for $2,190 to the foundation the day of the volunteer event, and collected even more donations, plus Kimco’s corporate match, following the volunteer event. The total donation amounted to $2,590.

Teamwork in the kitchen: Kimco volunteers preparing a hearty meal for families at the Children’s House
It’s important for us to volunteer in the communities where we have properties, and we were grateful for the opportunity to support families here in Baltimore. The Mid-Atlantic Region has existing partnerships with various organizations, including Health Care for the Homeless, the Maryland Food Bank, and Ronald McDonald House Charities, but we’re always looking for new ways to give back and we appreciate suggestions from our team members. Working with Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation was the perfect chance to do something similar to our past work with Ronald McDonald House, but with a different organization. We look forward to coordinating more events with the foundation in the future and continuing our relationships with our current partners. Our goal is to host two to four charitable events each year.
